Dham Dham Riddim Music Workshop in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka

2024

Dham Dham Riddim began as a three day workshop, “Thalaam Riddim Reapers”, to introduce digital music production tools and techniques during Dinacon 2022, Digital Naturalism Conference at DreamSpace Academy, Batticaloa Sri Lanka. In February 2024, we reconvened at DreamSpace for a ten day intensive “bootcamp” Dham Dham Riddim, with travel supported by a Goethe Institut Music Grant. Here we developed a step-by-step process by which participants went from recordings sounds in their environment, to writing patterns and sequences, to producing a song.

We used free, open source or otherwise accessible software.

The result were released as an album in August: https://dreamspac- erecords.bandcamp.com/album/dham-dham-riddim

We will continue to develop Dham Dham Riddim at Dinacon 2025, to be hosted by Sea Communities Bali, 23 June–22 July, where will focus on sonifying and building instruments from plastics salvaged from the ocean and beach.

Swan Song

Swan Song 2 x 12 inch vinyl dubplates produced by Flipping the Coin edition 1 of 30

Swan Song is a recent work involving several Berlin based electronic and experimental/new music composers. It is a reinterpretation of the myth of the dying swan.

The swan songs are being pressed on limited edition vinyl dubplates by Flipping the Coin, Berlin. Flipping the Coin releases records by artists working on the cusp of visual art and music. Losing quality slightly with each play, as is the case with all dubplates, after approximately 500 plays the audio on the records will be rendered inaudible.

Concept and cover art: Lucinda Dayhew

Participating musicians: Clare Cooper . Gudrun Gut . Golden Disko Ship (Theresa Stroetges) . Jasmine Guffond (Jasmina Maschina) . Ari Benjamin Meyers . NSI (Max Loderbauer & Tobias Freund) also part of Moritz von Oswald Trio, with Ricardo Villalobos - ECM remixes & Tobias . Tom Thiel . Lucinda Dayhew

COCO

A pulsing visual poem, COCO is a lilting meditation on spherical rhythmic objects, soft and
sun-dried liquids, global food and goods trading, atemporal and anachronistic colonial
trajectories, dirtiness, cleanliness, and, well, coconuts.

A film I made that premiered recently on Glasshouse

Sound design, music, voice by me, Lucinda Dayhew
